Piotr A. Kowalski is employed as a professor at the Faculty of Physics and Applied Computer Science at AGH University of Science and Technology and at the Systems Research Institute of the Polish Academy of Sciences. He completed his master’s studies in teleinformatics and automation at the Krakow University of Technology in 2003 (both specialisations with distinction), and then obtained his doctorate in data science at the Polish Academy of Sciences in 2009. In 2018, he was awarded a habilitation degree in the field of artificial neural networks at the Systems Research Institute of the Polish Academy of Sciences. In 2019, he was appointed to the position of university professor at AGH University of Science and Technology in Krakow.
His research interests include information technologies, with particular emphasis on intelligent methods, such as neural networks, fuzzy systems, and nature-inspired algorithms, applied in complex systems and knowledge discovery processes. From 2018 to 2023, he served as a member of the management group and led a conference grant for young scientists as part of Cost Action 17124 DigForAsp (Digital forensics: evidence analysis via intelligent systems and practices), funded by the European Cooperation in Science and Technology (COST). Additionally, he has participated in numerous research and development (R&D) projects funded by the Ministry of Science, the National Centre for Research and Development, and the Małopolska Centre for Entrepreneurship, and other intuitions.
Piotr A. Kowalski is a member of the Polish Information Processing Society and the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, in particular, the IEEE Computational Intelligence Society. He currently serves as an editor and member of editorial committees of many scientific journals and is also a member of scientific committees of many renowned scientific conferences. Additionally, he is a member of the Discipline Council for Technical Informatics and Telecommunications at AGH and the Scientific Council of NASK PIB. Furthermore, he is a reviewer of numerous academic nominations (doctoral, habilitation), research grants, and scientific articles, contributing his knowledge to the evaluation of scientific achievements in various fields.
