dr hab. inż. Marek Reformata

University of Alberta (Kanada)

Marek Z. Reformat obtained his Master of Engineering degree (with distinction) from the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Poznan University of Technology, and his doctoral degree – from the University of Manitoba in Canada. He is a professor at the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Alberta.

His research activities focus on developing methods and techniques for intelligent data modelling and analysis, leading to the translation of data into knowledge. He uses concepts of computational intelligence – particularly, fuzzy computing and possibility theory – as elements necessary to capture the relationships between data fragments and knowledge, and to introduce human aspects into data analysis and decision-making processes, resulting in greater human awareness and human-like systems.

He has published over 100 peer-reviewed papers in the fields of computational intelligence, knowledge, and software engineering. He is an associate editor of several international journals. He is a former president of the North American Fuzzy Information Processing Society (NAFIPS) and a former president of the International Fuzzy Systems Association (IFSA).
